The World Cup on folding and inflatable catamarans, Ukraine, Cherkassy 2012
Look from a catamaran board "Skoda" (class monotype Ducky17, UKR71)

On April 28, 2012, in Cherkassy started the first open World Cup on folding and inflatable catamarans. In spite of the fact that in competitions only two countries – Ukraine and Russia were presented, it was the most representative regatta, from all passing before, the fleet totaled 71 catamarans. Competitions consisted of a series of short races and race rally which consisted of four stages, with a general extent about 120 km which route lay from Cherkassy, to the island Zhovnino and back. As a whole, the regatta passed at high level. I don't know how, but organizers managed to agree even with weather: it was solar and abnormally warmly, as for this period of time though forecasts promised a cold snap. Winds was not much if not to tell a little, but it was more interesting to that to chase in so changeable conditions. The nervous tension reached the apogee when the fleet got to a calm with the subsequent change of a wind. During one race leaders could be replaced several times and fight lasted to the last meters of a distance.

On April 30, day of official opening of a regatta. This day managed to carry out two short races on a distance "loop". Calm in the second race, in combination with a strong watercourse presented the mass of surprises. So, many yachts which have rounded the bottom sign of a distance, got to a difficult situation: at the time of a full calm, them carried away a current, and they gave in whereas others could finish with a light breeze.

On May 1, start of the first stage of ralliyny race: Cherkassy-Sagunovka, extent is 30 km. This stage went to a lavirovka, with an unpleasant counter wave which was caused by wind and current opposition. Very much parking - the most picturesque place with the pine wood and sandy hills pleased.

On May 2, start of the second stage of rally race - Sagunovka-Zhovnino, extent is 30 km. This transition meant crossing Kremenchug sea. One part of fleet from start left to the left coast while the second part of fleet went along the right coast, counting on that at natural day calling of a wind it will be possible to get advantage. But not so it turned out as it was supposed: calling of a wind appeared much more, than it was expected. Both groups met near the island Veremeevsky then, again reunited fleet continued race. On a beam of the island of Zhovnino the fleet got to a calm, in combination with turbulent flaws of the different directions. Yachts in turn escaped forward, picked up by rushes, and again stopped as driven. All this occurred for some kilometers to the finish, tension read off scale. Exhausted by hours-long calm race, under the scorching sun, yachtsmen collected the last forces for fight on the finish.

On May 4, start of the third stage of rally race – Zhovnino-Vasyutintsa, extent is 30 km. Easy fair wind. Start against a wind. The regatta was again divided into two groups: the first group left through the passage between Zhovnino's island and the island Veremeevsky on the open water, the second – continued to move along the coast. When the last islands remained behind a stern – the fleet reunited again. Became obvious that the option was to go on open water more successful: most likely, stronger wind and a passing wave played a role. Expectations of stronger wind in "pipe" between islands and the coast didn't come true.

On May 5, start of the last stage of rally race – Vasyutintsy-Cherkassy. Breeze. More than an hour crews in vain attempts tried to catch almost inaudible whiffs. The new wind came from Cherkasy. In turn, since those who was closer to a new wind, yachts filled the sails and moved to the finish. Already on the way to Cherkassy the wind began to amplify. Here, when catamarans managed to show the character. The last kilometers of a distance were similar to sprint. The crew of a catamaran of "Lion" (Ducky17, UKR88), recorded the speed of 16 knots on the GPS – quite good result for the loaded boat, considering that the catamaran moved against the current.
